Managing Media – who are we?

Nick Farr and Robert Andrews, the senior partners in Managing Media, can both point to a wealth of relevant media experience and an outstanding track record of success.

Nick Farr spent more than 30 years in the cut-and-thrust world of newspaper publishing across Hampshire, Wiltshire and Dorset, rising from advertising executive to publisher and general manager of a stable of extremely successful titles.
During that time he:

  • was a central figure in the launch of the Avon Advertiser. Free newspapers were seen as a risky novelty at the time but, under Nick’s dynamic leadership, the company went on to achieve ground-breaking success.
  • was appointed the first general manager of Salisbury Newspapers, which was formed when the Avon Advertiser and Salisbury Journal series merged. Nick led a 100-strong team that became a massive profit-maker for its parent company Newsquest.
  • became involved in regional publishing issues, filling key roles within the publishing group, and helping pioneer various highly profitable spin-offs projects, such as reader holidays.

After leaving newspapers in 2002, Nick was appointed by Hampshire Police, based at Winchester, to lead their marketing operation, focusing on establishing and maximising external revenue streams.

Robert Andrews spent 20 years in the highly competitive environment of newspaper advertising. After starting as a sales executive with the Avon Advertiser, he gained widespread experience with a number of titles.
During his time in newspapers, he:

  • led the Avon Advertiser sales team to record revenues for a number of successive years.
  • headed the newly enlarged sales team at Salisbury Newspapers after the merger of the Avon Advertiser and Salisbury Journal in 1997.
  • gained invaluable management experience when seconded to other publishing centres, including Plymouth, as a sales consultant and trouble-shooter.

Since leaving newspapers in 2002, Robert has been employed as a media marketing guru for various companies, including a major motor dealership, and as an advertising consultant for a regional magazine publisher.
